New Spot Remover Joins SOA Solutions Family

CRI Seal of ApprovalCRI is proud to announce the addition of Professional Strength Spot Remover as a new cleaning solution under the CRI Seal of Approval Program, upping the total to 232 products now certified in the program. The trend of more and more solutions earning certification as word continues to spread that some carpet manufacturers have made a decision to tie carpet warranties to the use of CRI SOA- approved products.

Professional Strength Spot Remover is manufactured by Brite Carpet Cleaning, Inc., which is based out of Huntersville, NC. The SOA designation certifies that the product passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

SOA/Green Label Vacuum Program Adds Four

Green Label/SOA Vacuums - Gold, Silver, Bronze FanA total of four new vacuum cleaners have earned the designation as Green Label/Seal of Approval Approved vacuum cleaners. The new Seal of Approval/Green Label vacuum program is a tiered program with bronze level requiring a 10% improvement of cleaning performance over the existing Green Label program. A gold level machine must also meet a higher dust containment standard. The new gold standard requires that a machine has no more than 35 micrograms of dust particle emission. The old standard allowed for 100 micrograms of dust particle emission.

The Hoover C1320 earned gold designation under the testing while Clark Company provided a trio of machines each earning the bronze level of certification. Hoover is based out of Glenwillow, OH. Clark Company has its headquarters in Springdale, AR and the three models certified include: the Clarke Carpet Master 215, the Clarke Carpet Master 218, and the Clarke Carpet Master 212.

To earn the CRI Seal of Approval/Green Label certification, vacuums must pass the following independent laboratory tests:

  • Soil removal - CRI uses NASA-enhanced x-ray fluorescence technology to measure the precise amount of soil removed from carpet.
  • Dust containment - The vacuum must not release more than 100 micrograms of dust particles per cubic meter of air, keeping dirt and dust locked tight in the vacuum - not escaping back into the air where it can be breathed.
  • Carpet texture retention - The vacuum must not affect the texture of the carpet more than a one-step change based on one year of normal vacuum use.

There are now a total of 78 certified vacuums in the recently announced program.

IEHA Partners With CRI on SOA Promotion

CRI President Werner Braun was a featured speaker at the recent International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) meeting in Cincinnati, OH where he extolled the benefits of CRI's Seal of Approval program. Following the meeting, CRI was able to secure a memorandum of understanding with IEHA that it would promote the use of SOA products with its 3,800 members and CRI would provide marketing and educational materials to help facilitate the use of SOA products within its membership.

The MOU is the third such one CRI has garnered a signature on following up successful efforts with the Dalton-Whitfield County Chamber of Commerce and the Hilton Corporation.

The International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA), is a 3,800-plus professional member organization for persons employed in facility housekeeping at the management level. The organization was founded in 1930 in New York City, and is now located in Westerville, Ohio, a suburb of the State's capitol, Columbus. Executive Housekeepers are managers who direct housekeeping programs in commercial, industrial or institutional facilities. They supervise staffs ranging from a few to several hundred people and handle budgets from a few thousand dollars to millions. IEHA provides members with an array of channels through which they can achieve personal and professional growth.

CARE Mentioned in Family Circle Magazine

The Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) will be prominently mentioned in the November 29th edition of Family Circle Magazine.

The blurb appears in Lindsey St. Clair's "Home News" column and can be found under her Eco-tip. It says that an estimated 5.6 billion pounds of carpet will end up in US landfills this year. Before you drag an old rug to the curb visit carpetrecovery.org to find recycling centers in your area.

Family Circle has a circulation of just over four million and was one of the magazines CRI president Werner Braun met with on his last media tour in New York city in May of this year.
