Eight New Solutions Join SOA Solutions Family

CRI Seal of ApprovalCRI is proud to announce the addition of eight new cleaning solutions under the CRI Seal of Approval Program, upping the total to 231 products now certified in the program. The trend of more and more solutions earning certification as word continues to spread that some carpet manufacturers have made a decision to tie carpet warranties to the use of CRI SOA approved products.

Biotec Corporation, Cleaner's Depot, and Misco Products Corporation each have two new products certified in the program and are joined by Nu-Tech Cleaning Systems and Oreck with new products in the program.

Biotech Corporation, based out of Broadview, IL, earned certification for its BioGreen Heavy Duty Carpet Pre-Spray (pre-spray) and BioGreen Carpet Extraction Cleaner (in-tank). Cleaner's Depot, out of Delrey Beach, FL, earned certification for its Dominator (pre- spray) and Gold LX (in-tank) solutions, while Misco Products Corporation in Reading, PA, had its Majestic (pre-spray) and Elements Environmentally Responsible Carpet Cleaner (pre-spray) both certified.

Oreck., headquartered in Cookeville, TN, earned certification with the Oreck Full Release Spot and Stain-Pre-Cleaner (spot remover) and Nu-Tech Cleaning Systems, Inc. of Berkley, MI, had its Grease Magic Fiber Safe (in-tank) solution designated SOA certified.

Each of these products passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

SOA/Green Label Vacuum Program Adds 26

Green Label/SOA Vacuums - Gold, Silver, Bronze FanA total of 26 new vacuum cleaners have earned the designation as Green Label/Seal of Approval Approved vacuum cleaners. The new Seal of Approval/Green Label vacuum program is a tiered program with bronze level requiring a 10% improvement of cleaning performance over the existing Green Label program. A gold level machine must also meet a higher dust containment standard. The new gold standard requires that a machine has no more than 35 micrograms of dust particle emission. The old standard allowed for 100 micrograms of dust particle emission.

All 26 machines were earned gold designation with Tacony Corporation of Fenton, MO, supplying 18 of the newly certified machines and Oreck providing an additional eight machines. Oreck is headquartered in Cookeville, TN. The Tacony vacuums earning gold certification include: Riccar Vibrance Premium; Riccar Vibrance Delux; Riccar Vibrance Standard; Symmetry Premium; Symmetry Delux; Symmetry Standard; Simplicity F3300; Simplicity F3500; Simplicity F3700; Simplicity 3300C; Simplicity 3500C; Simplicity F3700C; Riccar RSL1A; Riccar RSL3; Riccar RSL5; Riccar RSL1AC; Riccar RSL3C; and Riccar RSL5C.

The Oreck models certified gold included: U2250R; RU2250R; U3770H; RU3770H; U4150H; RU4150H; U7000E; and RU7000E.

To earn the CRI Seal of Approval/Green Label certification, vacuums must pass the following independent laboratory tests:

  • Soil removal - CRI uses NASA-enhanced x-ray fluorescence technology to measure the precise amount of soil removed from carpet.
  • Dust containment - The vacuum must not release more than 100 micrograms of dust particles per cubic meter of air, keeping dirt and dust locked tight in the vacuum - not escaping back into the air where it can be breathed.
  • Carpet texture retention - The vacuum must not affect the texture of the carpet more than a one-step change based on one year of normal vacuum use.

There are now a total of 74 certified vacuums in the recently announced program.

Trio of Extractors Join SOA Ranks

SOA Extractors - Gold, Silver, Bronze FanAdvance continues to add to its product lines certified under the Seal of Approval category for extractor equipment with the addition of three machines to the program. The Advance AquaPro XP with AquaWand earned Gold certification, the Advance AquaPro H with AquaWand earned silver certification and the Advance AquaPro C with AquaWand earned a bronze certification.

Advance is headquartered in Plymouth, MN, and now has 17 extractors certified in the program assuring customers that it removes stains and soil from carpet without damaging the carpet pile or causing resoiling problems.

The CRI Seal of Approval program tests the effectiveness of carpet cleaning equipment and certifies deep cleaning extractors that effectively remove soil without damage to the carpet. Not all extractors are good enough to earn this distinction; the blue and green seal helps customers recognize they are buying quality products. An independent laboratory administers the CRI Seal of Approval testing for extractors. To quality for the Seal, extractors must meet stringent standards in all three-test categories:

  • Amount of soil removed from the carpet
  • Amount of residual moisture removed from the carpet from a wet cleaning process
  • Impact of the equipment on carpet fibers and appearance

In addition, soil removal efficiency is rated on three levels. Extractors that exceed average soil removal receive a Bronze Seal rating. Those achieving higher soil removal receive a Silver rating and those receiving the highest level of measurable soil removal are awarded a Gold level Seal of Approval. A total of 80 extractors have earned SOA certification.
