CRI Offers Five CEU Courses For AIA and IIDA

The Carpet and Rug Institute, Inc. (CRI) is dedicated to providing valid information to the industry in all arenas. With this in mind, a Continuing Education Unit (CEU) work group was formed from within our member company's talented workforce to help put together a bevy of unbiased information that could be used for CEU courses.

Continuing Education courses are needed by the Interior Design and Architectural professionals to maintain the professional designation. The courses developed by the CEU work group provide unbiased, non-proprietary information about carpet so the professionals can take the knowledge from these courses to the field and be better designers.

Once the courses are developed by the CEU work group, they are submitted before the Market Issues Committee and, if technical issues are covered, the Technical Issues Committee for approval.

After the courses are approved within the CRI, they are submitted to the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for approval. This allows the professionals to acquire accredited hours for participating in the CEU classes.

Currently, the CRI have the following CEU's completed and ready for instruction:

  • CEU 201 - IDCEC Course #4893 - Carpet Construction: This course covers Carpet Manufacturing Processes, Construction Methods, Tufted Industry Product Types, Tufting Process Elements, and Commercial Face Weights.
  • CEU 203 - IDCEC Course #4999 - Dye Methods: This course covers Types of dye methods, Process and machines used for each method and Characteristics of each dye method.
  • CEU 204 - IDCEC Course #5143 - Carpet Testing Methods: This one hour course allows question and answer interaction with the instructor as the audience learns detailed, technical information on carpet testing requirements and methods. This also introduces the Green Label Plus testing that meets the California 1350 CHPS standards and discusses a long list of carpet test methods that include those that meet ASTM and NFPA standards.
  • CEU 206 - IDCEC Course #5000 - Introduction to Carpet Specification: This course covers Construction and Performance Specifications, Elements of both types of specifications, How "tight" should specs be, Specifying for Performance, Indoor Air Quality, Installation, Maintenance, and Environmental issues.
  • CEU 301 - IDCEC Course #5144 - Carpet Maintenance: This one hour course allows question and answer interaction with the instructor as the audience learns detailed, technical information on carpet testing requirements and methods. This also introduces the Green Label Plus testing that meets the California 1350 CHPS standards and discusses a long list of carpet test methods that include those that meet ASTM and NFPA standards.

In addition, we have CEU 202 - Fibers and Yarns that has been submitted for approval with the IIDA and AIA.

The workgroup is in the process of developing other CEU's. Please visit our website at carpet-rug.org to get the latest information on the developed CEU's. In addition, on the website is a listing of all the member company CEU administrators. You may contact them to arrange scheduling of a training class.

As we move forward in our CEU development, we are always looking for members willing to lend their expertise in the development of these valuable courses. If you would like to volunteer for the workgroup, please contact Pat Jennings at 706.428.2123
