Six New Solutions Push SOA Family Past 100

CRI Seal of ApprovalThe addition of six pre-sprays into the CRI Seal of Approval family has pushed the cleaning solutions program past the 100 certified mark as word continues to spread that some carpet manufacturers have made a decision to tie carpet warranties to the use of CRI SOA-approved products.

Grime Release Pro, Ultra Pro Traffic Lane Pretreat, Cleaner's Choice Release, Ultimate TLC Prespray, Maximum Velocity Carpet Prespray and Ultra Prespray 321 are the new pre-sprays to earn SOA recognition as products that have tested among the best cleaning solutions on the market.

Grime Release Pro is manufactured by Harvard Chemical Research, Inc., which is headquartered in Atlanta, GA., while Ultra Pro Traffic Lane Pretreat is manufactured by Bestway Supply out of Jupiter, FL. Cleaner's Choice Release is a pre-spray manufactured by Interlink Supply/Cleaner's Closet out of Virgina Beach, VA. Ultimate TLC Prespray is made by Sunbelt USA which is headquartered in Raleigh, NC. Maximum Velocity Carpet Prespray is produced by Professional Carpet Systems also out of Raleigh, NC. Ultra Prespray 321 is a product manufactured by Truckmount and Cleaning Solutions out of Norcross, GA.

Each product passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

To date there are now 102 cleaning solutions which have earned SOA designation.

Two Extractors Earn Gold Level SOA

CRI Seal of Approval - Gold, Silver, BronzeA pair of US Products portables has been added to the Seal of Approval category for extractor equipment certifying the products meet the highest of performance standards by earning Gold level status.

Solus 500 and TorrentR, each manufactured by US Products out of Coeur d'Alene, ID., can now assure customers that their extractors removes stains and soil from carpet without damaging the carpet pile or causing resoiling problems at the highest of levels.

The CRI Seal of Approval program tests the effectiveness of carpet cleaning equipment and certifies deep cleaning extractors that effectively remove soil without damage to the carpet. Not all extractors are good enough to earn this distinction; the blue and green seal helps customers recognize they are buying quality products.

An independent laboratory administers the CRI Seal of Approval testing for extractors. To quality for the Seal, extractors must meet stringent standards in all three-test categories:

  • Amount of soil removed from the carpet
  • Amount of residual moisture removed from the carpet from a wet cleaning process
  • Impact of the equipment on carpet fibers and appearance

In addition, soil removal efficiency is rated on three levels. Extractors that exceed average soil removal receive a Bronze Seal rating. Those achieving higher soil removal receive a Silver rating and those receiving the highest level of measurable soil removal are awarded a Gold level Seal of Approval. A total of 46 extractors have earned SOA certification.

Fourth Annual WCRC Meeting Takes Place

Delegations from Japan, China, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the US gathered at the Surfaces Convention to convene the fourth annual World Carpet and Rug Council meeting this past week. The association is made up of representatives of the carpet trade associations from these countries and meets to discuss common issues that effect carpet producers globally. CRI President Werner Braun just concluded his term as chairman of the group and will be succeeded by Allen Firth, President of the Carpet Institute of Australia for 2007.

The group will meet again in China in January of 2008.

Braun Makes Presentation to Beaulieu Sales Force

CRI President Werner Braun was among the speakers as some 200-plus sale representatives of Beaulieu of America gathered for their annual sales meeting in Las Vegas this past week. Braun's presentation centered on the "multiplier effect" and urged those in the sales field to take the positive messages CRI has developed and multiply them to their customers. This is part of CRI's ongoing strategy of using the large sales force in place within the industry to carry the messages to the masses. If anyone is interested in securing a CRI representative to talk to their sales groups, please contact James Beach.

CRI Salutes the Georgia Delegation

CRI's Frank Hurd and Todd Smith,
Chief of Staff to Congressman Nathan Deal
Last week CRI hosted their annual Congressional Reception, A Salute to the Georgia Delegation. We brought a "taste of Georgia" to the reception by serving Chik-Fil-A. In conjunction with the reception, Werner Braun, President, CRI, Frank Hurd, Vice President and VP Federal Government Affairs and Rick Hooper, Chief Counsel at Shaw Industries and Chair of CRI's Government Issues Committee spent two days in the Nation's Capitol. While there they made visits to a number of Congressional offices, including: Senators Isakson and Chambliss, Representatives, Kingston, Marshall, Gingrey, Price, Linder, Deal, Barrow, Norwood and Corker. Berry Interview on "Green Cleaning" Monday

Dr. Michael Berry will be the featured interview as Interlink Supply continues its series of monthly educational and motivational live teleconference interviews for the cleaning and restoration industry. Dr. Berry, former director of EPA's indoor research program, will talk about "Be Yellow Before You Green - A Systematic Approach to Green Cleaning" on Monday, February 12th.

These monthly training teleconferences are designed to allow people to listen in and provide questions and immediate feedback via e-mail or fax to the featured speaker.

With the proliferation of recommendations and requirements for the use of so-called "green" cleaning chemistry throughout the cleaning and restoration world, Dr. Berry's background provides him with an unparalleled expertise in exactly how this should effect our approach to cleaning. If you would like to participate in the call, it begins at 6 p.m. and can be accessed by dialing 212-990-8000. The pin for the call is 1311.

CRI Website Hits Milestone

The CRI website has long been the association's primary vehicle for providing information as the source of science-based facts regarding carpet and rugs. In the just completed first month of 2007, however, the website pushed ahead to achieve a new milestone in page views, surpassing the 200,000 mark for the month of January. In fact, 202,822 pages were viewed by those searching for information.

Stay tuned as CRI is currently working on revamping its current website to make it even more "web-friendly" in the month ahead.
