In This Issue: Five New Solutions Join SOA Family
Attack Traffic Lane Pretreat, pH-iber Guard Traffic Lane Cleaner and H2Orange2 Concentrate 117 are the three new pre-sprays to earn SOA recognition and are joined by spot remover Spot Chomp Pet Odor and in-tank solution Spot Chomp Steam Vac as products that have tested among the best cleaning solutions on the market. Attack Traffic Lane Pretreat is manufactured by James Varley & Sons, which is headquartered in St. Louis, MO., while pH-iber Guard Traffic Lane Cleaner is manufactured by Steamway International Inc. out of Denver, CO. H2Orange Concentrate 117 is manufactured by EnvirOx, LLC out of Danville, ILL. Environmental Solutions International out of Batavia, ILL manufacturers both of the Spot Chomp products. Each product passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change). To date there are now 76 cleaning solutions which have earned SOA designation. Contact Carroll Turner at 706.428-2106. Cadet 7 and Clipper 12, each manufactured by Windsor Industries out of Englewood, CO., can now assure customers that their extractors removes stains and soil from carpet without damaging the carpet pile or causing resoiling problems at the highest of levels. HydraMaster 4.8CDS also earned gold level certification and is manufactured by Hydramaster out of Mukilteo, WA. The CRI Seal of Approval program tests the effectiveness of carpet cleaning equipment and certifies deep cleaning extractors that effectively remove soil without damage to the carpet. Not all extractors are good enough to earn this distinction; the blue and green seal helps customers recognize they are buying quality products. An independent laboratory administers the CRI Seal of Approval testing for extractors. To quality for the Seal, extractors must meet stringent standards in all three-test categories:
In addition, soil removal efficiency is rated on three levels. Extractors that exceed average soil removal receive a Bronze Seal rating. Those achieving higher soil removal receive a Silver rating and those receiving the highest level of measurable soil removal are awarded a Gold level Seal of Approval. CARE, NYCORE, LokBlok Sizzle At GreenBuild ShowThe Annual U.S. Green Building Council GreenBuild Show was recently held in Denver, Co., and aside from the numerous carpet manufacturers and CRI members that had a presence at the show, the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) joined forces with NYCORE and LokBlok in an effort to showcase the many strides the carpet industry has made in carpet reclamation and the numerous products containing post- consumer recycled carpet in their products. The trio shared a large booth at the event and traffic for the three-day event was at an all-time high. Many contacts were made and each of the representatives at the booth came away from the show energized over the success of the show and the prospects that were mined. NYCORE, headquartered in Atlanta Georgia, was CARE's Recycler of the Year award winner in 2004 and markets building products made primarily out of recycled carpet. LokBlok has partnered with NYCORE to produce a patented interlocking block that replaces cement and hopes to be commercially available in 2007. Much of the GreenBuild attendance this year was comprised of builders who flocked to find out about the new product. Some 15,000 attendees were represented at this year's show. CRI Giveaway At GreenBuild Drives Traffic to Carpet ManufacturersCRI also had a prominent presence at this year's GreenBuild show, including providing a give-away that was designed to drive traffic to the individual carpet manufacturers who had booths at the show. CRI gave away 10 I-pods to lucky winners who visited all of the carpet manufacturers represented at the show and returned a card punched by all of the CRI members. Over 130 people entered the contest and the word from the participants was that it was well worth their time to visit with the carpet manufacturers. CRI was able to educate the attendees on carpet reclamation efforts as well as the industry's stellar sustainability work and the importance of the Green Label Plus program. CRI also sponsored one the networking gardens that drew heavy traffic and helped make the show a resounding success. Contact James Beach at 706.428-2116. CRI Now Has Service Provider Agreement in PlaceThe Carpet and Rug Institute encourages the use of its Seal of Approval logo, and/or label by qualified service providers. In order to protect and assure the proper use of the highly recognized program's symbols and identities, an agreement outlining these guidelines must be executed by the service provider. Any service provider using Seal of Approval equipment and cleaning products together are now eligible to display the logo on their trucks and/or marketing materials as long as they have signed this agreement, provided contact information along with a list of SOA certified equipment and chemicals being used in your normal day to day carpet cleaning operation. In addition to execution of the Participation Agreement, an annual fee is also required. This fee of $25 must be submitted at time of application for use of the SOA logo. CRI will also provide high resolution images of the official SOA seal upon request. High quality 12-inch diameter vinyl decals are also available for purchase at nominal cost through the CRI Publications Desk. Call Susan Newberry at 706.428-2114 for details on availability and cost.
