In This Issue: Two New Solutions Join CRI SOA Family
The Enviro-Solutions 71 Super H2O2 Citrus Concentrate Multi-Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser is a spot remover manufactured by Enviro-Solutions and headquartered in Ontario, Canada. The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change). To date there are 60 cleaning solutions which have earned SOA designation as being among the best cleaners on the market. Contact Carroll Turner at 706.428-2106. Recently introduced bills could create an Office of High-Performance Green Buildings in the General Services Administration, where the office's director would develop and enforce design standards for all of the agencies. A relatively obscure executive order from President Clinton already instructs federal agencies to reduce energy consumption and integrate life-cycle costs into building design. The General Services Administration (GSA) and U.S. EPA, for example, have policies that require new buildings to be built consistent with LEED Silver, the U.S. Green Building Council's third-highest rating for sustainable design. Even so, other agencies have adopted less rigorous construction benchmarks, and some have done nothing. Sen. Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.) and Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) introduced companion bills recently that would create an Office of High-Performance Green Buildings in GSA -- the federal landlord. The office's director would be tasked with developing uniform sustainable design standards and procurement policies for all agencies. Contact Frank Hurd at 706.428-2136. CRI Now Has Service Provider Agreement in PlaceThe Carpet and Rug Institute encourages the use of its Seal of Approval logo, and/or label by qualified service providers. In order to protect and assure the proper use of the highly recognized program’s symbols and identities, an agreement outlining these guidelines must be executed by the service provider. Any service provider using Seal of Approval equipment and cleaning products together are now eligible to display the logo on their trucks and/or marketing materials as long as they have signed this agreement, provided contact information along with a list of SOA certified equipment and chemicals being used in your normal day to day carpet cleaning operation. In addition to execution of the Participation Agreement, an annual fee is also required. This fee of $25 must be submitted at time of application for use of the SOA logo. CRI will also provide high resolution images of the official SOA seal upon request. High quality 12-inch diameter vinyl decals are also available for purchase at nominal cost through the CRI Publications Desk. Call Susan Newberry at 706 428 2114 for details on availability and cost. These decals are suitable for do it yourself installation on trucks and vans. Contact Pat Jennings at 706.428-2126. CRI One of Invited Exhibitors At NASA ShowCRI teamed up with KeyMaster Technologies to exhibit at NASA’s Research and Technology Expo at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Al. recently. The show was by invitation only and KeyMaster was there to exhibit its XRF technology, while CRI was on hand to show how the technology had been adapted by the carpet industry and is one of the vital components in the Seal of Approval Testing Program. The show was designed to bring highly technical folks together as a way to generate ideas and the CRI booth was busy. Several high level NASA researchers came by to chat about CRI’s recent Space Act agreement with the NASA, including ideas on how to clean and detect amounts of space dust that will be encountered as NASA moves towards returning to the moon and eventually Mars.
