SOA Cleaning Solutions Family Continues Growth

CRI Seal of ApprovalTwo new cleaning solutions have earned the designation as a CRI Seal of Approval certified cleaning product. Duraclean Universal Spotter and FiberFresh Crystallizing Cleaner & Spotter each passed a series of stringent tests performed by an independent laboratory in order to make the list of cleaning solutions. Universal Spotter is a spot remover manufactured by DuraClean International, Inc., headquartered in Arlington Heights, Ill., while FiberFresh Crystallizing Cleaner & Spotter qualified as both a spot remover and pre-spray. FiberFresh is manufactured by ServiceMaster Clean which is headquartered in Memphis, Tenn.

The tests for spot removers, pre-sprays and in-tank solutions include protocols for efficacy (removing stains), resoiling (whether the product attracts soil at an accelerated rate), pH (excessively acid or alkaline products can affect dyes and fibers), optical brighteners (can adversely affect color, appearance and performance) and colorfastness to light (residues on pile yarn can accelerate color change).

To date there are nearly 60 cleaning solutions which have earned SOA designation as being among the best cleaners on the market.

Three Extractors Earn SOA Designation

CRI Seal of Approval - Gold, Silver, Bronze with Space FoundationA trio of extractors has made their way on to the Seal of Approval-certified extractors list, including two more from Nilfisk-Advance and one from Kent- Euroclean. Nilfisk-Advance upped its total of certified extractors to five with the addition of two more of the manufacturer's self-contained units earning SOA designation. The SOA certification distinguishes the extractors as having passed a series of stringent tests measuring three performance criteria: amount of soil removed from the carpet, amount of residual water left in the carpet and impact of the machine on the fibers and appearance. Certified extractors are rated gold, silver or bronze based on the amount of soil they remove.

The Nilfisk-Advance AquaClean 18FLX and the AquaRide XP each passed the necessary tests to earn bronze certification as did Kent-Euroclean's Klenzor 18MPH machine. Extractors that exceed average soil removal standards receive a bronze rating. Those achieving higher soil removal receive a silver rating, and those receiving the highest level of measurable soil removal are awarded a gold level SOA.

Time to Become a CHPS Member

California's Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) has opened its membership up to companies and trade associations. CRI is a member and actively participates on the CHPS technical committee. With the CA Governor's Green Building Executive Order unfolding, resulting in the State Architect endorsing CHPS as a recommended design standard, many more school districts statewide are referring to CHPS Design Guidelines. (Not to mention that 15 Districts in CA have made CHPS a mandatory design standard and states outside of CA have licensed CHPS!) In addition, as the new version of the Best Practices Manual is published, newfound interest in CHPS is escalating. If your company has an interest in schools market then you may want to explore being a CHPS Member.

Global Leaders Form Intellectual Property Rights Strategy

European and American leaders met recently in Vienna at the annual EU-U.S. Summit. Hosted by the Austrian presidency of the European Union, the gathering tackled a wide array of bilateral and global issues.

European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, U.S. President George W. Bush, and other leaders discussed Iran, the Middle East, combating terrorism, and democracy promotion. They also considered a possible extension of the U.S. visa waiver program and how Europe and the United States can cooperate on energy security, climate change and sustainable development.

One of the most notable results of the Summit was the launching of the joint Action Strategy for the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights against piracy and counterfeiting. Piracy and counterfeiting continue to be two of the biggest issues CRI's International Issues Management Team combats.
