Two New Cleaning Products Make Debut on SOA List

CRI Seal of ApprovalPetX Stain Remover and Stain-X Pet Stain Remover, manufactured by Wisconsin-based AMI, are the two latest cleaning products to receive certification under the CRI Seal of Approval testing program. The program certifies that the cleaning solutions have been tested by an independent laboratory for the cleaning efficacy, resoiling, pH, optical brighteners, and colorfastness to light. The SOA is only awarded to those cleaning products with high performance in the testing categories. Water serves as the control in all categories, the rationale being that all products should clean better than water. More than 80 spot removal, pre-spray, in-tank and extractor products have earned the CRI Seal of Approval by passing the series of strict tests for cleaning effectiveness and appearance retention.

CRI Hosts Reception for Georgia Delegation

CRI president Werner Braun just completed a trip to Washington D.C. where he met with several prominent lawmakers representing Georgia and was the host for a reception held in honor of the representatives. Braun met with Reps. Deal, Gingrey, Norwood, Linder and Price along with Senators Chambliss and Isakson. Braun also met with representatives from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) during the two-day trip.

CRI Booth Enjoys High Traffic Volume at Surfaces

Surfaces 2006 in Las Vegas enjoyed another large gathering of approximately 40,000 floor covering professionals and the CRI booth was filled with plenty of visitors during the three-day tradeshow. Among the hottest topics of interest for those dropping by the booth were CRI’s signature programs (Seal of Approval and Green Label) as well as installation and continuing education courses.

CRI staff also held several key meetings with installation groups as it continues to pursue plans for operating a center for installation training in the Gulf region in the near future.

Economic Slowdown Unexpectedly Steep in Q4

According to Reuters, economic growth slowed sharply in the fourth quarter to the weakest pace in three years as consumers spent less robustly, growth in homebuilding eased and businesses were less eager to boost investments, a recent government report showed. Gross domestic product, the broadest measure of economic activity within U.S. borders, advanced at a 1.1% annual rate in the October-December period — little more than a quarter of the third quarter's 4.1% rate and the weakest for any three months since 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2002. Consumer spending, which fuels two-thirds of national economic activity, slowed to a 1.1% annual rate of growth, sharply below the third-quarter rate and the weakest since a 1% gain in second quarter of 2001.

Some Democrats Are Sensing Missed Opportunities

According to the New York Times, Democrats are heading into this year's elections in a position weaker than they had hoped for, party leaders say, stirring concern that they are letting pass an opportunity to exploit what they see as widespread Republican vulnerabilities. In interviews, senior Democrats said they were optimistic about significant gains in Congressional elections this fall, calling this the best political environment they have faced since President Bush took office. But Democrats described a growing sense that they had failed to take full advantage of the troubles that have plagued Mr. Bush and his party since the middle of last year, driving down the president's approval ratings, opening divisions among Republicans in Congress over policy and potentially putting control of the House and Senate into play in November.
