ISSA/Interclean Trade Show Draws Crowd To CRI/NASA Booth

CRI President Werner Braun was a featured speaker recently at the ISSA/Interclean Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas and gave an hour-long presentation at the cleaning industry's largest trade show. Some 17,000 attendees made their way through the Convention Center during the three-day event and kept the CRI booth busy. CRI once again teamed up with NASA to share a booth at the event and over 500 packets were handed out with information on getting products Seal of Approval certified. NASA once again provided its interactive mannequin astronaut for the show and it created quite a buzz.

The CRI Seal of Approval testing program which utilizes NASA-enhanced XRF technology is currently being highlighted on the website of the Space Foundation, which has certified the testing program. CRI is a lifetime partner with the organization and the testing program, which affects an entire industry of products, is the first of its kind to garner such certification.

CARE Set to Reschedule Meeting, Present to StarNet

The second annual CARE Entrepreneur meeting which was slated to be held in Florida on October 25th was postponed due to Hurricane Wilma. This is an exciting meeting focusing on the opportunities and issues of the entrepreneurial community and how CARE can help them. Over two dozen entrepreneurs had signed up for the meeting and the hope is to reschedule it for sometime in late November.

CARE has also recently opened a very important dialog with StarNet to help put in place a national reclamation program for their 135 North America dealers. Bob Peoples has been invited to present an overview at their annual meeting in Boston on November 5th.

HouseKeeping Channel To Add Carpet Section

The popular Housekeeping Channel has contacted CRI about adding a carpet section to the website saying that the topic deserves its own category. The section will give CRI a place where it can highlight more of our research and expertise as we partner with them.

HC has asked for CRI's recommendations for products such as cleaning chemicals, carpet spot removers, vacuum cleaners, etc.

Governor Schwarzenegger Vetoes California Biomonitoring Bill

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a biomonitoring bill despite a recent decision by the California Chamber of Commerce to withdraw its opposition to the legislation setting up the state program, a move many thought could influence Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) decision to sign or veto the bill. A number of changes had been made to the bill to help sway business support, including new language stating "the measurement of an environmental chemical in a biospecimen does not by itself mean that the chemical causes disease." However, other major business groups - including The American Chemistry Council and the California Manufacturers & Technology Association which CRI supported – successfully lobbied against the measure, arguing it would create unnecessary concerns and possibly new regulations about the chemicals detected.

Social Responsibility Taking Hold

Goldman Sachs is just the latest in a string of old-money investment firms to embrace social responsibility as a viable -- indeed necessary -- yardstick for assessing companies’ overall performance. As the concept of socially responsible investment moves from the margins to the mainstream, market-savvy companies are reporting more social and environmental data than ever before. Meanwhile, investors are demanding increasing and demonstrable gains in social and environmental performance among publicly traded companies. The carpet industry has long been hailed for its sustainability practices
