Green Label Plus for Adhesives Receives CHPS Approval

CRI Green Label PlusThe Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS), a consortium of public agencies and California utilities that has identified low-emitting materials criteria - Section 01350,PDF (PDF 433 KB) Need help with PDF? - for use in schools has accepted CRI’s Green Label Plus testing program for adhesives in lieu of Section 01350. The Green Label Plus program for adhesives was launched on August 1 and was recently approved by the CHPS Board of Directors to determine the acceptable adhesives in CHPS low-emitting Materials list. A school that specifies and installs the materials qualifies for points under Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 2: Low-Emitting Materials. CHPS and the Los Angeles Unified School District developed a list of products that are certified to meet the criteria. CRI worked in cooperation with the California Department of Health Services' Indoor Air Quality Section (DHS/IAQ) and the California Sustainable Building Task Force to establish a testing protocol for VOCs emitted from carpet and adhesive products in lieu of Section 01350.

SSR Extraction Detergent Joins SOA Family

SSR Extraction Detergent is the latest product to join the family of Seal of Approval (SOA) certified carpet cleaning products. Test results from an independent lab certified SSR Extraction Detergent as an in-tank cleaning product as it passed all five elements of the testing protocol to earn SOA designation. There are now a total of 24 products that have earned the SOA designation.

Bush Nominee Faces Heat on EPA Risk Assessments

George Gray, President Bush's nominee to lead EPA's Office of Research and Development (ORD), is likely to face questions from Senate Democrats about his view on the White House's role in reviewing risk assessments, says Inside EPA. Gray, who is currently executive director of Harvard University's Center for Risk Analysis, has publicly supported administration proposals to hand more control over the selection process for risk assessment peer-review panels to White House officials, such as the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. The current head of OMB is John Graham, who previously held Gray's position at Harvard. Senator James Jeffords (I-VT) has joined Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) in objecting to proposals for greater White House authority, saying such a change would risk "politicizing EPA's scientific conclusions."

CRI Encourages Green Lodging Stops While in Florida

The recent announcement of CRI's partnership with The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to help Florida’s lodging industry create a healthier indoor environment and reduce the generation of solid waste in hotels and motels across the state has generated quite a buzz. The announcement was picked up by major publications across the state as well as the Associated Press. DEP’s Green Lodging initiative encourages hotels and motels to adopt cost-saving ‘green’ practices that conserve energy, reduce water consumption, protect air quality and reduce waste. CRI encourages its member companies, when traveling to Florida, to identify those hotels within the state which have met the criteria for certification and patronize them on your visits if at all possible.
