Connections Event Draws Interested CrowdCRI's new Seal of Approval (SOA) testing program for cleaning products got rave reviews at the recent Connections Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida. Presentations by Carey Mitchell of Shaw Industries, Lloyd Starks of Keymaster Technologies, and Joan Seelaus of CRI highlighted technical details of the testing standard as well as how the program has been promoted in the marketplace. Of particular interest is the use of the NASA-enhanced x-ray fluorescence (XRF) technology to quantify soil removal by vacuum cleaners and extractors. Throughout the show the CRI booth received a significant volume of traffic. The Connections conference features experts in the field of marketing, cleaning, restoration and remediation who discuss the most important aspects of recent improvements and updates in the industry. CRI will also be involved with the fall Connections Conference in Las Vegas, Sept. 23-25, 2005. Contact Joan Seelaus at 706.426-2123. Visit the Connections Conference website. Peoples Participates In Several EventsCRI Director of Sustainability Bob Peoples participated in the EnvironDesign 9 Conference in New York recently in which he spoke on the subject of standards. The conference itself was down in numbers, but the individual session was well-attended. In addition, Peoples presented an AIA/CEU seminar to an AIA group in Pennsylvania that was very well received. The President of the group said he personally found it fascinating that CARE was trying to balance recycled material with avenues for reuse. Peoples is also scheduled to give a similar presentation at Green Design Solutions in Chicago on May 5th. This Environmental Design and Construction sponsored event is geared toward green design solutions for hospitals and schools. The conference will focus on green design efficiencies for environmental creation and building design.Peoples will be distributing CRI's videos, "Healthy Patients and Healthy Numbers: The Results of Evidence Based Design" and "Beautiful Spaces for Children: Building High Performance Schools." EPA Seeks to Cut Down on Risk Assessment DisputesIn an effort to minimize disputes between government agencies about toxic risk assessments, managers at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are working on a plan to extend the risk analysis phase of assessments and by adding additional peer review prior to releasing preliminary, quantitative conclusions to the public. Additional rounds of peer reviews would also be mandated. According to Risk Policy Report, the goal is to force regulators to focus more on the scientific evidence and less on the potential regulatory implications. The proposal still needs approval from Acting EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson, whom President Bush has nominated to lead the agency. Contact Frank Hurd at 706.428.2136.
