EPP Spreads Environmentally Preferable Products or Environmentally Preferable Purchasing
(EPP) has spread from the State of California. The legislation mandates that
state agencies must use products specified in the state-approved database or
products that are "green" or contain recycled content. What began
in the California Office of the State Architect as a mandate to create an EPP
database has spread to Illinois. Last week the Illinois House Committee on Environment
passed legislation on to the House regarding creation of an EPP Task Force in
the state of Illinois. CRI is closely monitoring the issues in both California
and Illinois. Flooring B2B Standard Committee to Meet in JuneThe
Flooring B2B Standard Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, June 30 in Atlanta.
Participating companies -- manufacturers, dealers, distributors and software
providers -- will be discussing and providing status updates about the significant
progress made in implementing this ecommerce technology across the industry.

an export seminar in Washington D.C. from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on June 8 to
provide information about how to design and sell contract/hospitality products
to the Middle East. In Dubai alone, 140 luxury hotels and resorts with over
34,000 rooms are set to be built in the next three years. Experts from the fields
of design, construction, project specifying and standards will explain what
you need to know to be successful in this market. There will be ample time for
questions. The fee is $25.00 and includes breakfast and lunch. Braun In Demand For Interview RequestsCRI President Werner Braun has done interviews with four different publications
in the past couple of weeks. Carpets and rugs will be featured in the upcoming
July edition of AATCC Review and Mr. Braun was asked to offer his comments on
current issues of importance, including sustainability. The AATCC Review is
published by the American Association of Textile Chemicals and Colorists. Mr.
Braun also did interviews with Parents Magazine and School Planning & Management
on carpet issues. In addition, Mr. Braun was also solicited for his comments
and remarks on sustainability and carpet stewardship for a paper that will appear
in the Yale Journal of Industrial Ecology. Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport says, "Let's Go..."To
help improve air service and build a partnership between airlines, the airport
and the community, Chattanooga Airport Authority officials are asking for customer
feedback. The airport website has an online survey to learn more about your
travel needs. In its continuing effort to improve reliability, scheduling and
fares, the airport reports record numbers of passenger boardings, reduced fares,
and new flights, including daily nonstop flights to Washington DC (starting
July 11). According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, service between
Chattanooga and Atlanta has improved: in March 2004, 98.6% of flights were completed,
of which 91.6% were on time. The same route had a 97.3% completion rate from
November 2003 through February 2004. For comparison purposes, the national average
(over an eight year period) for completed flights is 97.6% and 74% for on time
flights. The airport offers 25 daily departures and nonstop service to New York,
Chicago, Cincinnati, Memphis, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Washington DC. Floor Covering Industry Foundation (FCIF)The FCIF is dedicated to financially assisting those who are, or have been,
affiliated with the floor covering industry who experience catastrophic illness,
severe disabilities, or other life-altering hardships. The Foundation's dual
criteria for grants are catastrophic illnesses/injury and financial need. Few
things are more frightening than a sudden change in your health that affects
your livelihood. The Foundation relies solely on charitable contributions from
industry employees, companies and manufacturers. The
Thirty-Third Annual CRI Health & Safety Awards Breakfast was held at the
NorthWest Georgia Trade & Convention Center on May 26, 2004. More than 130
people attended the event, representing 142 manufacturing facilities and 99
distribution locations. The top award to a company with Manufacturing Facilities
was presented to Milliken & Company, and the top award to a company with
Distribution Facilities was a tie between Milliken & Company and bp Amoco
Fabrics & Fibers.
