Columbia County Schools Get $3 Million in Upgrades
Florida – Close to $3 million in construction projects are planned for half of Columbia County’s 12 schools, with projects ranging from new classrooms to a new parking area. Older schools are also scheduled for renovation and maintenance work. For more information, visit the Lake City Reporter.

School Construction Money Surprisingly Granted
Maryland – Despite initial warnings that most construction requests would not be honored this year, the state Board of Public Works recently approved $2.6 million to help pay for a new elementary school and high-tech science lab at Annapolis High School. However, the State Superintendent has put a freeze on new money for design and planning of future school construction projects. For more information, visit the Capital-Gazette.

CRI Attends the Republican Governor’s Association (RGA) Forum

Jennifer Mendez of CRI traveled to Columbus, Ohio last week to attend the RGA Forum. The sitting governors in attendance were: Governor Taft, Ohio; Governor Rowland, Connecticut; and Governor Martz, Montana. In the past, the carpet industry has experienced some de-selection issues as a result of the position of the Ohio Department of Health with regard to use of carpets in schools. CRI is currently still working on a resolution of this issue. While at the Forum, Jennifer had the opportunity to share with Governor Taft CRI’s experiences regarding her work with the Ohio Department of Housing. Ohio is presently spending one to two million dollars a day on new school construction. Contact Jennifer Mendez at 703.875.0634.

CRI Participation at IICRC Mold Remediation Standard S520

CRI microbiologist, Dr. Steve Phillips, attended the recent (May 4-6) Las Vegas meeting of the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) committee that is writing the IICRC Mold Remediation Standard S520. This is to be a guide to mold remediation that will be accurate and balanced. CRI is participating to ensure that the document is balanced and scientifically accurate and that carpet is not misrepresented. When finished, our goal is that the document will be accepted by The American Congress of Government Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) at their annual meeting. Contact Steve Phillips at 706.428.2115.
