Critical Audiences Survey – Preliminary ResultsAs part of our marketing program to lower barriers to profitability and growth, we are conducting a nationwide survey of our critical audiences. Four (of five) surveys have been finished so far, and the data are in the process of being analyzed. Preliminary results indicate that the findings are fairly positive. Carpet fares pretty well in the early ballots, compared to other products facing similar issues, with most audiences giving positive ratings in the 40%-50% range on both the “performance” and “likelihood to specify” early ballots. Within the next 7-10 days, CRI will have a written report with figures and tables. We will then review the data with the polling group and report the results to our members. Texas Advisory CommitteeTexas House Bill 98 would establish an Advisory Committee to advise and make recommendations to the Insurance Commissioner with regard to building specifications related to the use of mold, fire and/or water resistant materials in residential construction. Following the review of Committee reports and recommendations, the Commissioner would have the authority to require a property insurance premium discount for the use by the homeowner of such Committee recommended materials. Carpet, in the absence of moisture and a food source, offers resistance to mold growth and should, therefore, gain favor with such a Committee. CRI will continue to monitor the progress of the Bill. The first meeting will take place on March 20 via conference call to the NAM offices in Washington, D.C. Contact John Miller at 706.428.2109. CARE SurveyThe University of Georgia has been collecting data to be used in the first annual report of the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE). The report will highlight CARE’s efforts to divert waste carpet from landfills. If your company or organization is involved in any way with the recycling or reuse of waste carpet, please contact Mary Sue Brewer at the University of Georgia to learn how you can complete the CARE survey. All survey responses remain anonymous, and will only be used in the aggregate for CARE reporting purposes. Carpet manufacturers, recyclers and handlers can complete the survey online at the UGA Carpet Recycling Resource site. Contact Mary Sue Brewer by phone at 706.542.3758.
